BREWING METHOD

French press coffee with rich body and effortless technique.

Learn the right grind, ratio, water temperature, steep time, and plunge technique for a clean, full-flavored cup.

The simple 4-minute method

1. Grind: Use a coarse, even grind.
2. Measure: Start with 30 g coffee to 500 g water.
3. Saturate: Add hot water and stir gently.
4. Steep: Wait about four minutes.
5. Plunge: Press slowly and serve immediately.

Best grind

Coarse and consistent. Fine grounds can create bitterness, resistance, and muddy sediment.

Water and ratio

Use water just off the boil and begin near a 1:16 coffee-to-water ratio, adjusting by taste.

Avoid bitterness

Do not leave brewed coffee sitting on the grounds. Decant immediately after plunging.

What you need

French press brewer, burr grinder, kettle, scale, timer, and a wooden or silicone spoon. An insulated press helps when serving several cups.
